Pianist-vocalist Rich Hill has a personal sound steeped in the rich jazz, blues and gospel traditions of his Kansas City hometown. His keyboard style is grounded in the long tradition of jazz piano from ragtime to stride, bebop and modern jazz. Depending on the song, he might play something that sounds like Fats Waller, then something with a kind of Bill Evans or Chick Corea feel, followed by a tune suggesting Ray Charles’ blues-tinged earthiness. His success entertaining audiences with his keyboard and vocal talents while maintaining a certain standard of artistry is a notable accomplishment proven by continued demand for bookings.

A la Mode Duo features guitarist/composer Clayton DeLong with vocalist/percussionist Jesica Poell. Born in California and raised in Kansas City, Clayton began playing guitar at age 16. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Missouri Kansas City, Conservatory of Music where he studied jazz guitar under Kansas City greats such as Rod Fleeman, Danny Embrey and Bobby Watson. Jessica has studied classical voice and performed on stages from Arrowhead Stadium to Carnegie Hall to the Plaza Art Fair and is a Chaz favorite. The A la Mode duo performs jazz from standards to French gypsy, Latin and swing.

Megan Birdsall is a songstress nurtured in a creative home and in the Kansas City jazz community. The talented vocalist and composer has recorded two CDs: Track 13 featuring original material and an amalgam of jazz, blues and pop interpretations of diverse artists ranging from Cole Porter to Joni Mitchell, the Beatles and Stevie Wonder. Little Jazz Bird is a paean to traditional jazz standards. She was named “Best Kansas City Jazz Musician” for 2009/10 by PitchWeekly. She has performed in prestigious settings in Kansas City and elsewhere – performing tonight in the intimate confines of Chaz on the Plaza.

Chaz draws a loyal flock of regulars Sunday nights to hear a diverse repertoire performed by the Mengel Brothers. Dana and Les Mengel are among the top classical musicians in the Kansas City area. Both studied at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and appear as members of many local Community Orchestras. Dana, violinist, is a noted composer whose works have been performed across the country and are included in their play list. Les, cellist/bassist, has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, taught at William Jewell College and reached semi-finals in the Concours International Chamber Music Competition in Paris. Guests appreciate their fresh stylings on classical compositions as well as riffs on jazz, pop and rock from artists such as the Beatles and Doors.

One of the best guitarists ever to come out of Kansas City, Rod Fleeman uses acoustic guitar to showcase his love of of ’30s and ’40s jazz, blues and swing. Fingerstyle guitarist and singer Dan Bliss shows his old style guitar talents on tunes by artists such as Fats Waller, Louis Armstrong, Nat King Cole and Chuck Berry. Together, they produce a big sound, an irresistible vibe that moves audiences – sometimes to get their jittterbug groove on. Kansas City blues & jazz fans’ passions will be stoked by this sensational guitar duo. Rod Fleeman is one of KC's best known jazz guitarists. He has toured with notable artists such as Marilyn Maye, Karrin Allyson, Jay McShann and Claude "Fiddler" Williams. In addition to performing, Rod teaches guitar at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance. Dan Bliss is an acoustic jazz and blues guitarist who has performed for Midwest audiences for more than 20 years. He has recorded 2 CDs, has opened for blues greats, and performed solo and in ensembles.

Kim Sivils has been immersed in Kansas City jazz since childhood. She has a deep connection with the music she plays and expresses it in her own distinct, yet understated sound. Kim has performed as a soloist and in jazz ensembles at jazz venues throughout the city. She is featured in Chaz as a piano soloist performing fresh arrangements of jazz standards and in ensembles. Steve Rigazzi is a bassist, composer and recording artist whose musical adventures have taken him to nine countries and three continents. Steve has toured the United States Air Force Band and toured with local legend Angela Hagenbach as part of the U.S. Department of State’s Jazz Ambassadors program. His passion for jazz and his humor have earned him favored status with Chaz audiences while performing in various ensembles.

ThIs is a dynamic duo of veteran jazz, and r&b musicians. Jaisson Taylor is regarded as one of the top jazz, blues, and R&B drummers/vocalists in the KC Metro area. His experience spans other genres, including African, South American and modern American percussion methods and styles. His rich and smooth vocals has made him sought after for recording and voice overs in KC and has earned him a high reputation as a recording artist. Vocalist/guitarist Ric Barron’s wide range and octave abilities gives him the ability to accurately sing in different genres from country and American folk to jazz, blues, funk and rock. Ric has established himself as a one of the best overall guitarists in the region. He earned first place at the Estes Park International Duet Singing Competition, and in 2012 was inducted into the Kansas Music Hall of Fame.

Headliner Bryan Redmond has been playing saxophone since grade school, singing in gospel groups at church and studying locally at UMKC before emerging on the Kansas City music scene in the mid-1990's. His distinct baritone voice is equally at ease shouting the blues or crooning a mellow ballad. Wielding a myriad of saxes, he can unleash a soulful, dynamic approach and rough, dark tone that hearkens back to the days of roadhouses and juke joints or paint from a softer shaded palette with ease.
