Born in Paraguay, Pascottini was introduced to the piano at age 4 and gave his first piano recital at the age of 6. His love of music and desire to expand his musical and cultural horizons led him to the USA in 1989 to study English, and while here, was awarded a scholarship in piano performance from the University of Kansas. Chaz invites you to experience the lovely sound his deft fingers create while gliding across the keyboard.

British Invasion reproduces the sounds of the Beatles, Dave Clark Five, Gerry & the Pacemakers, the Rolling Stones and many of the other British bands that flooded the US airwaves starting in 1964. The foursome includes acoustic and electric guitars, bass and keyboards as well as strong lead vocals and harmonies.

Havilah Bruders is a versatile and soulful Kansas City vocalist who performs a variety of genres as though each was her sole focus. Raised in a singing family, this classically trained vocalist claims the golden age of jazz and swing as the soundtrack to her life. Her ability with jazz improvisation and her love affair with jazz, swing and Delta blues makes her one of Chaz’s favorite jazz singers.

Grand Marquis is a band of musical mixologists serving up a refreshing cocktail blend of the timeless, Kansas City jazz sound born in the 1920s and a unique brand of hot, swinging jazz and jumping blues. It’s music that recalls a variety of settings and styles – from the Kansas City swing era to energetic Parisian haunts of the ’30s to Memphis joints of the ’50s where rock met gospel, blues and jazz to the streets of New Orleans where the city’s irrepressible spirit has always lived in its music. Chaz draws a loyal flock of regulars Sunday nights to hear a diverse repertoire performed by the Mengel Brothers. Dana and Les Mengel are among the top classical musicians in the Kansas City area. Both studied at the UMKC Conservatory of Music and appear as members of many local Community Orchestras. Dana, violinist, is a noted composer whose works have been performed across the country and are included in their play list. Les, cellist/bassist, has performed with the Kansas City Symphony, taught at William Jewell College and reached semi-finals in the Concours International Chamber Music Competition in Paris. Guests appreciate their fresh stylings on classical compositions as well as riffs on jazz, pop and rock from artists such as the Beatles and Doors.

Experience a unique acoustic ensemble specializing in French Gypsy Jazz. Violinist Marvin Gruenbaum is a 35-year veteran of the KC Jazz scene and a viola player with the Kansas City Symphony. Bruce Graybill is a celebrated Jazz mandolinist/composer who is a two-time champion of the prestigious mandolin contest at the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. Charles Gatshet is a well-known local guitarist and composer who has performed with the likes of Step-Buddy Anderson and Claude “Fiddler” Williams. Brazilian jazz specialist, headliner Danny is joined by the great electric bassist Greg Whitfield. Both are members of the Sons of Brasil, a group that has performed together for 25 years. Come delight in the distinctive jazz rhythms of Jobim, Djavan, Buarque, Veloso, Caymmi and many other fine Brazilian composers, along with original compositions. Danny has toured Brasil twice and Greg is very experienced and musically steeped in the country’s culture.

Voted 2011 Person of the Year by Plasticsax.com and Best Bassist by Pitch Magazine, headliner Jeff Harshbarger has had an eclectic career. A prolific composer and bandleader in his own right, Jeff has recorded and performed across the globe with varied artists including Kansas City jazz legends Bobby Watson and Milt Abel. He is a co-founder of Tzigane Music, an artist-run collective and record label, and is the curator of Jeff Harshbarger Presents: An Alternative Jazz Series, promoting new improvised music in Kansas City. Jeff has received numerous grants and awards, including The Kennedy Center’s Betty Carter Fellowship, the Steans Institute Fellowship, the Creative Capital Foundation’s Professional Development Grant and the 2015 Charlotte Street Generative Performing Artist Award. Jeff also hosts Wednesday’s Jazz in the Afternoon from 1-3 pm on 90.1 FM KKFI.

A la Mode Duo features guitarist/composer Clayton DeLong with vocalist/percussionist Jesica Poell. Born in California and raised in Kansas City, Clayton began playing guitar at age 16. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree from University of Missouri Kansas City, Conservatory of Music where he studied jazz guitar under Kansas City greats such as Rod Fleeman, Danny Embrey and Bobby Watson. Jessica has studied classical voice and performed on stages from Arrowhead Stadium to Carnegie Hall to the Plaza Art Fair and is a Chaz favorite. The A la Mode duo performs jazz from standards to French gypsy, Latin and swing.

Megan Birdsall is a songstress nurtured in a creative home and in the Kansas City jazz community. The talented vocalist and composer has recorded two CDs: Track 13 featuring original material and an amalgam of jazz, blues and pop interpretations of diverse artists ranging from Cole Porter to Joni Mitchell, the Beatles and Stevie Wonder. Little Jazz Bird is a paean to traditional jazz standards. She was named “Best Kansas City Jazz Musician” for 2009/10 by PitchWeekly. She has performed in prestigious settings in Kansas City and elsewhere – performing tonight in the intimate confines of Chaz on the Plaza.

A 30 year veteran of the KC music scene, Steve plays with some of the cities top performers and has toured with chart topping heavyweights such as Percy Sledge, Sam & Dave, Tracy Bird, and was a core member of local KC band, The Classmen. Vocalist Shannon Lipps has worked in KC for over 10 years performing in various local rock, blues, jazz and country bands. She stays on the creative edge writing lyrics and co-composing for original works with The Ambient Stem (a branch of The UK’s Ambient Society). This versatile duo combines classic jazz and blues standards with more contemporary R&B and light rock covers.
