In the national travel magazine’s World’s Best Awards readers' survey, the hotel checked in among the top 100 hotels in the continental U.S.

Voted one of the World's Best Places to Stay by Condé Nast Traveler 2005 Reader’s Choice Survey, The Raphael Hotel is a historic boutique hotel patterned after Europe's finest small hotels. Almost 21,000 Condé Nast Traveler subscribers completed the survey, selecting The Raphael as one of top hotels on the planet.

Historic Hotels of America Member. When the Raphael Hotel opened in Kansas City, it was the pioneer in the “boutique hotel” trend. The revolutionary concept was designed to offer individualistic accommodations with European charm, character, intimacy, personalized service and exceptional value. The Spanish Renaissance Revival-style structure was originally built in 1927 as a nine-story apartment building known as the Villa Serena adjacent to what is now the Country Club Plaza district. After extensive renovation and restoration that preserved the building’s vintage style and classic design, while providing for the modern comforts expected by contemporary travelers, the landmark property reopened in September 1975 as the Raphael Hotel. The building’s original brick exterior and wood-paneled ceiling in the Raphael Restaurant were both preserved, while the rest of the property was modernized with state-of-the-art amenities, including a full-service business center. The hotel’s 88 suites and 35 guestrooms retain the classical style rooted to the building’s late-‘20s origins, while seamlessly including such modern amenities as high-speed internet. The Raphael Hotel is a member of Historic Hotels of America since 1999.

The restaurant is noted for neoclassic cuisine rooted in French fundamentals and textured with world influences. The menu changes seasonally to maintain freshness and accommodate the natural cycle of heartland agriculture. The restaurant features daily seafood or fish specials.
